Aeronáutica SDLE displays at FEINDEF its IRP drone for special operations

The Individual Recognition Platform (IRP) is one of the Aeronáutica SDLE latest developments. The system was firstly presented last February at the International Defense Exhibition (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi, and this week is shown at the International Defense and Security Exhibition (FEINDEF) in Madrid.

The IRP is a lightweight and small-sized unmanned aerial system (UAS) for indoor security operations. Its design exceeds in performance the solutions known so far for indoor flights on search and reconnaissance missions.

The system is easily operable in one hand, to allow the operator quick reaction in case it is necessary to take action. It ensures a 15 minutes flight autonomy and stability control to fly in GPS-denied environments, operating without the need for external sensors or satellite coverage. In its initial configuration, the IRP provides the maximum vision capacity, with HD, thermal and electro-optical cameras.

In addition to recognition and search operations, its features make it effective on critical infrastructure security and maintenance; NRBC detection (Nuclear, Radiological, Biological and Chemical) and review of the state of oil pipelines and confined spaces.

Additive manufacturing

The biggest innovation contributed by Aeronáutica SDLE on this system manufacturing is that it can be done in aluminum or other materials through additive manufacturing, which allows the maximum design customization according to specific needs. The final result is a lighter and more resistant equipment.

Besides being faster than the rest of manufacturing processes, through additive manufacturing the thicknesses, and therefore the weights, can be easily modified. The initial design of the IRP can be adapted from this technique, customizing the chassis according to the needs. With this type of manufacturing, SDLE obtains different highly resistant, lighter and custom components for repair and maintenance of combat vehicles and other equipment.

IRP advantages for search and reconnaissance indoor operations:

> Target identification

> Shock resistance

> High stability

> Silent

> Lightweight and small size

> Real-time video streaming

> Remote guidance with one hand
